Dr. Iain Macdonald is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Design Innovation at Maynooth University. With over 25 years in the creative industry as a motion graphics designer and commercials director at the BBC, he transitioned to academia, holding roles at Ravensbourne University, Edinburgh Napier University, and London College of Communication. His research focuses on interdisciplinary projects, including HPV vaccine awareness through STEAM workshops and a scholarly biography of Scottish watercolourist W. Alister Macdonald. He co-leads an international project combining design, education, and immunology to improve HPV vaccine uptake, funded by Irish Research Council and Science Foundation Ireland. His work also involves co-design initiatives in Mozambique with UNICEF partners, emphasizing global health communication. He holds editorial roles at the International Journal of Art and Design Education and has received awards for design excellence, including a BAFTA nomination.
