Iain MacDonald is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Lead for postgraduate MRI studies at the University of Cumbria’s Pears Cumbria School of Medicine. He teaches undergraduate diagnostic radiography, oversees apprenticeship programs, and serves as personal tutor and link lecturer to NHS medical imaging departments. His professional registration includes HCPC certification as a diagnostic radiographer and Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
Qualifications: PhD in Technology Enhanced Learning (University of Lancaster), MSc in Medical Diagnostic Imaging, PgCert in Learning & Teaching in Higher Education, and BSc in Diagnostic Radiography (University of Derby).
Research focuses on collaborative assessment methods using Web 2.0 platforms, online learning in radiation science, and cardiovascular MRI applications. He explores student approaches to learning and virtual learning environment development, particularly Blackboard. Medical imaging interests include radiation physics, imaging technology integration with anatomy/pathology, and MRI advancements.
Publications span MRI patient care, radiobiology, and educational strategies in radiography. External roles include external examiner for diagnostic radiography programs in England and Singapore, and executive committee member of the Assessment in Higher Education network organizing international conferences.
