Iain Darby is a Senior Lecturer in Paramedic Science at Bournemouth University, where he has held full-time academic roles since 2016. He concurrently works as a registered Paramedic for South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS). His academic career includes roles as Programme Lead for Paramedic Science (2018–2022) and External Examiner at the University of Suffolk (2021–2024). Iain holds advanced teaching qualifications, including a Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (2020) and a PGCE in Education Practice (2018).
His research focuses on paramedic practice challenges, clinical decision-making, and transition into professional roles. Notable work includes a PhD (ongoing since 2023) exploring graduate paramedics’ transition into practice and the impact of cognitive biases on clinical outcomes. He has published in journals like Journal of Paramedic Practice and presented at international conferences such as EMS999 and Advance HE events.
Awards include recognition for his contributions to healthcare education and peer-reviewed contributions to journals like the Australasian Journal of Paramedicine. His teaching responsibilities include unit leadership in Paramedic Practice Portfolio, Paramedic Care of Minor Illness, and Research Methodologies.
