Education:
- PhD in Economics, Lund University (2000) – dissertation: Multinational Enterprise Organization – A New Institutional Economic Perspective on Coordination
Research focus lies at the intersection of international business, environmental & climate economics, and higher-education pedagogy. Early work analysed new organizational forms in multinational enterprises using new institutional economics. This evolved into a strong interest in environmental economics, producing the widely used textbook Environmental Economics for Sustainable Development (1992, latest rev. 2007) that examines market-based environmental policy instruments and advocates global carbon taxes.
Recent scholarship concentrates on climate policy design, proposing “climate clubs” as a complement to the UN Paris Agreement, and on the teaching–research nexus in marketized higher education. He has debated these ideas in national newspapers and international journals, emphasising effective, incentive-compatible climate governance.
