Hui You is a Lecturer in the Department of Music at Stanford University since 2004. She teaches Gu-zheng courses across all levels and directs the Stanford Gu-zheng Ensemble, founded in 2004. She co-chairs the United States International Music Competition and serves on the Board of Directors of the Chinese Music Teacher’s Association in Northern California.
Education: B.A. in Zheng (summa cum laude) from Shanghai Conservatory (1987).
Research interests focus on traditional and modern Chinese instrumental music, pedagogy for classical instruments, and cultural transmission through music performance. Her work bridges classical Chinese music traditions with contemporary global audiences.
Awards: Recognized for excellence in competitions including Shanghai Spring Music Festival (1986) and CCTV Zheng contest (1989). Known for solo albums featuring both traditional and modern repertoire.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Stanford Gu-zheng Ensemble, fostering intercultural musical exchange through ensemble performances and educational outreach.
