Hui Weng serves as a Music Instructor in Guzheng at Wellesley College's Department of Music, while also holding positions as associate professor at Berklee College of Music and faculty member at the New England Conservatory (NEC). At NEC she directs the Chinese Music Ensemble, and at Berklee she leads the Global String Ensemble.
Her educational background includes a B.A. from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing (中国音乐学院) and an M.M. from the New England Conservatory of Music.
Dr. Weng's research centers on integrating traditional Chinese music practices with Western classical training to foster creativity through cultural exchange. She emphasizes how students' unique cultural backgrounds can inspire vibrant performing environments and investigates applications of improvisational skills in cross-disciplinary problem-solving. Her work bridges music pedagogy with intercultural communication, particularly through expanding Guzheng repertoire.
She has received the Emerging Artist Award from the St. Boltoph Foundation for her innovative contributions to Guzheng performance.
Dr. Weng actively engages in community outreach through music education initiatives in underserved communities, collaborations with Chinese music institutes, and benefit concerts supporting social justice, healthcare, and environmental causes. She is developing a new ensemble course at Wellesley focused on traditional Chinese music as a foundation for creative improvisation and composition.
