Hsiang Tu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Piano at the University of Florida’s School of Music. Born in Taipei, Taiwan, he is a Juilliard-trained pianist renowned for performances praised by The New York Times, The Boston Intelligencer, and Fanfare. He holds a B.M. from the University of Calgary and M.M./D.M.A. from The Juilliard School. His research focuses on classical piano repertoire, including works by Ravel, Debussy, and Chopin.

Research Interests: Dr. Tu specializes in interpreting 19th- and 20th-century piano works, particularly those by Ravel, Debussy, and Chopin. His projects include a global recital series celebrating Ravel’s 150th anniversary and recordings of Chopin’s 24 Preludes and Sonata No. 2. His debut album Bestiary on Ivory (2020) and 2024’s All-Chopin Album have received critical acclaim.

Advising & Teaching: Prior to UF, Dr. Tu taught at Virginia Tech, University of New Hampshire, Utah Valley University, and Snow College. He has adjudicated competitions across the U.S. and given masterclasses at institutions like USC, Peabody Conservatory, and Baylor University.
Forthcoming Projects: A global recital tour (2025) performing Ravel’s complete solo piano works in Croatia, Peru, Taiwan, the U.K., and U.S., followed by a recording project. Future plans include Debussy’s complete piano works and thematic recitals on animal-inspired compositions.
