Howard B. Kaplan was a Regents Professor and Distinguished Professor of Sociology at Texas A&M University, holding the Mary Thomas Marshall Professorship of Liberal Arts. He joined Texas A&M’s Sociology Department in 1988 after working at the Baylor School of Medicine in Houston. His career spanned over five decades, focusing on social psychology, deviant behavior, and medical sociology. He established the Laboratory for Studies of Social Deviance at Texas A&M and received the highest honor in medical sociology, the Leo G. Reeder Award, for his transformative contributions.

Research & Legacy: Kaplan’s work profoundly impacted medical sociology, deviance, and social psychology.
