David C. Zawieja is a Regents Professor and Executive Director of the Cardiovascular Research Institute at Texas A&M University’s School of Medicine. He holds a PhD in Physiology from the Medical College of Wisconsin (1986) and a BS in Biology/Chemistry/Population Dynamics from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (1978).
His research focuses on microcirculatory fluid and macromolecular transport, with emphasis on lymphatic system function. Key areas include lymph flow regulation, calcium-dependent contractile mechanisms, shear stress effects, and lymphangiogenesis. Techniques employed include intravital microscopy, fluorescent imaging, and mathematical modeling.
Notable awards include the Imperial College London’s Distinguished Visiting Professorship and the Texas A&M System’s Regents Professor Award. His lab members include Student Research Assistant Seth Greiner and Assistant Research Scientist Wei Wang, PhD. The lab is affiliated with Texas A&M’s Cardiovascular Research Institute.
