Professor Howard investigates how infants and young children select social informants, the role of social experience in selective learning, and the comparative cognitive abilities of primates (e.g., gorillas, chimpanzees, monkeys). Her work combines behavioral experiments, eye-tracking, and electrophysiological methods to explore social learning processes. She also studies the evolution of primate memory and the application of non-invasive research techniques in animal behavior studies.
