Lauren Brasington is an Assistant Professor in the College of Arts and Sciences at Winthrop University. She holds a PhD in Biological Anthropology from Tulane University, an MS in Biology from Winthrop University, and a BA in Biology from Colby College. Her research focuses on evolutionary explanations of non-human primate behavior, particularly intersexual conflict theory, infanticide impacts, and allonursing behavior. She contributes to the Santa Rosa Primate Project under Dr. Katharine Jack, analyzing long-term data on white-faced capuchin monkeys in Costa Rica. She has also studied saki monkeys in the Amazon rainforest and captive gorillas/mandrills.
- Education: PhD (Tulane), MS (Winthrop), BA (Colby)
Research interests emphasize primate behavioral ecology, with fieldwork spanning diverse species and ecosystems. Collaborations include work with Dr. Janice Chism on saki monkeys. Her studies integrate theoretical frameworks like intersexual conflict to explain primate social dynamics and reproductive strategies.
Labs/Teams: Active participant in the Santa Rosa Primate Project, contributing to longitudinal studies of capuchin populations.
