Horrick Sharma, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Medicinal Chemistry in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU). His expertise spans drug discovery, computational drug design, and synthetic medicinal chemistry with a focus on hit-to-lead optimization.
Dr. Sharma holds a B.Pharm. from Lachoo Memorial College of Science and Technology, an M.Pharm. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and a Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
His research interests include developing novel therapeutics targeting cancer metabolism, neurodegenerative diseases, and inflammatory conditions. Notable projects involve lactate dehydrogenase-A inhibitors for pancreatic cancer and dopamine agonists for Parkinson's disease. His work combines computational modeling, synthetic chemistry, and pharmacological evaluation.
Recent publications highlight advancements in COX-2 inhibitors, bivalent dopamine ligands, and TRIP8b-HCN interaction inhibitors. His drug discovery efforts emphasize oral bioavailability and nanomedicine applications for targeted delivery.
Dr. Sharma teaches courses in drug action mechanisms and medicinal chemistry at SWOSU, contributing to both undergraduate and graduate education in pharmaceutical sciences.
