Holly Vass is a Lecturer in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and a Cambridge-approved CELTA tutor at Coventry University. Her expertise spans applied linguistics, with a focus on legal and business discourse within English for Specific Purposes (ESP), as well as English for Academic Purposes (EAP). She holds a B.A. in Spanish from the University of Virginia, an M.A. in Applied Linguistics from George Mason University, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Languages for Specific Purposes at Madrid Polytechnic University.
Her research interests center on hedging strategies in legal discourse, particularly in law journal articles and Supreme Court opinions. She has contributed to understanding socio-cognitive aspects of hedging in judicial contexts and the role of hedging in balancing power dynamics within legal texts. Her work employs both small- and large-scale corpus linguistics methods.
Professionally, Vass has held Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) since 2006 and has been a CELTA teacher trainer since 2010. Her teaching spans TEFL modules, CELTA courses, and academic/business English instruction.
