Holly Jaycox serves as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Dance at Purdue University's Rueff School of Design, Art, and Performance, teaching courses including Improvisation and Modern dance while championing interdisciplinary connections and embodied learning.
Education:
- BAFA in Dance, University of New Mexico
- MFA in Choreography and Performance, University of Wisconsin Milwaukee
- Graduate Certificate in Performance Curation, Institute for Curatorial Practice in Performance at Wesleyan University
Specializing in improvisational movement forms, Jaycox defines improvisation as "choice making in the moment"—a somatic process grounding dancers in agency. Her work bridges visual and performative arts through cross-disciplinary collaborations, notably with sound artist Nathan McWilliams. As a founding member of GLACIER (Great Lakes regional Contact Improvisation organization), she has directed its annual retreat and taught workshops across the Midwest, presenting work from Detroit to Minneapolis.
Jaycox mentors Purdue students from diverse academic backgrounds, integrating dance with their primary disciplines while passionately introducing movement practice to beginners. She asserts that enhanced body awareness and physical confidence through dance enriches human experience, emphasizing accessibility for all skill levels.
Her leadership in GLACIER demonstrates sustained commitment to community-based dance practice, serving multiple terms as Artistic Director of its five-day retreat.
