Holli A. Semetko is the Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Media and International Affairs and Professor of Political Science at Emory University. She served as Vice Provost for International Affairs (2003–2013), Director of the Office of International Affairs, and Director of the Claus M. Halle Institute for Global Learning. Her research focuses on political communication, media strategies, and international affairs, with a focus on India, China, and the EU. She holds an MSc and PhD from LSE, an MBA from Emory, and has held visiting roles at IIT-Bombay and IIT-Roorkee.
Key achievements include launching Emory’s international partnerships program, the Halle Institute’s Knowledge Futures initiative, and the India Summit. She led research on media and campaigning in India’s 2014 elections with Emory grants. Her work emphasizes digital media’s role in democracy, strategic communication, and CSR.
She has held fellowships at Harvard’s Shorenstein Center and the German Marshall Fund. Awards include the Samuel H. Beer Dissertation Prize. She advises The Carter Center’s China Program and serves on boards for the Council on Foreign Relations and Emory’s Center for Ethics.
Her international engagement includes speaking at institutions across India, China, and Europe, and expanding the Halle Institute’s global study programs to Belgium, Brazil, China, and others. She has published over 100 articles on media effects, electoral strategies, and cross-national policy research.
