Pearl K. Dowe is the Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Political Science and African American Studies at Emory University, with a joint appointment between Oxford College and Emory College of Arts and Sciences. Her role bridges teaching at Oxford College (focusing on leadership) and curriculum development at Emory's African American Studies Department.
Education:

Research Interests: Dowe specializes in African American women's political leadership, gender politics, racial identity, and public policy. Her work examines how marginalized groups engage in political processes and the intersection of race and gender in electoral behavior.

Grants and Professional Roles: She received the American Political Science Association Centennial Research Grant (2016). Dowe has served on the executive councils of the Southern Political Science Association and National Conference of Black Political Scientists, and is co-editor of the National Review of Black Politics and on editorial boards of Journal of Economics, Race, and Policy and Race, Gender & Class Journal.
