Hojoon Lee is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neuroscience at Northwestern University. He holds a PhD from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). His research focuses on the neurobiology of taste, specifically the development of taste receptor cells, peripheral taste system wiring, and the neural mechanisms underlying taste-induced behaviors. Lee leads a multidisciplinary team at Cook Hall, Evanston, supported by state-of-the-art facilities.
Education: Ph.D., University of California, Los Angeles.
Research Interests: Lee’s work bridges developmental neurobiology and sensory systems. Key areas include how taste receptor cells regenerate every two weeks, how these cells form precise synaptic connections with neurons, and how taste cues trigger innate behaviors (e.g., attraction/aversion). His lab employs molecular genetics, imaging, and behavior analysis to study these processes, with implications for understanding neural circuit stability and regeneration.
