Hina Ashraf is an Associate Research Professor in the Department of Linguistics at Georgetown University, affiliated with the Initiative for Multilingual Studies. She holds a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from the National University of Modern Languages. Her expertise spans bilingualism, discourse analysis, language policy, and social capital, with a focus on education and marginalized communities. She has led grants investigating Urdu bilingual education in the U.S., Arabic language teacher identity, and pandemic health communication in Pakistan. Notable projects include creating a bilingual pandemic health corpus and studying trust-building in multilingual health communities.
Research interests include multilingualism’s role in social justice, language policy, and the intersection of education and global health. Her work bridges theory and practice, addressing systemic inequities through language education and policy reform. Awards include the Fulbright Postdoctoral Scholarship.
As PI/co-PI, she secured grants totaling over $2M, including the International and Foreign Language Education grant (2023-2026). Her projects often involve partnerships with schools and communities to enhance language education and health literacy.
