Hilde Løvdal Stephens is an Associate Professor of American Studies at the University of Oslo (since 2022), where she leads research on 20th-century U.S. history with a focus on religion, gender, education, and conservatism. She previously held roles at the University of Southeastern Norway, including a Visiting Associate Professor position. Her work bridges religious studies, political history, and cultural analysis.
Education: PhD in American Studies from the University of Oslo (ILOS). Key research interests include evangelical movements (e.g., Focus on the Family), the intersection of education policy and conservatism, and transnational religious revivalism. She has authored Family Matters: James Dobson and Focus on the Family's Crusade for the Christian Home (2019), which examines the influence of conservative family values advocacy.
Grants include a Fulbright Fellowship (2010-2011) and a Visiting Fellowship at Point Loma Nazarene University (2015). She contributes to research groups like Living Together: Finding Democratic Diversity and Religious Coexistence and Anglophone Political Cultures.
