Dr. Anja-Maria Bassimir is an Assistant Professor and postdoctoral researcher at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, affiliated with the Obama Institute for Transnational American Studies. She works within Professor Axel Schäfer’s team, focusing on projects related to religious periodical studies and transnational U.S. American food policy.
Her research spans religious history, particularly evangelicalism, alongside transnational American studies, periodical studies, social history, food policy, and migration and welfare state analysis. She has contributed to the Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 1482 Project B06, examining food policy’s role in bureaucratic human differentiation.
Dr. Bassimir’s publications include the monograph Evangelical News: Politics, Gender, and Bioethics in Conservative Christian Magazines of the 1970s and 1980s (Alabama University Press, 2022) and co-editorship of Religious Periodicals and Publishing in Transnational Contexts: The Press and the Pulpit. Her teaching encompasses U.S. history, cultural studies, and topics like evangelicalism, religion and media, conservatism, women’s history, labor history, and social movements.
