Hilary K. Fussell Sisco is a Professor and Founding Chair of the Department of Strategic Communication at Quinnipiac University. She holds editorial leadership roles as Editor-in-Chief of the Public Relations Journal and former Associate/Senior Associate Editor of the Journal of Public Relations Research. Her professional service includes leadership in PRSA committees such as the Educators Academy and National Research Committee. Dr. Sisco earned her PhD in Mass Communication from the University of South Carolina, an MS in Corporate Communication from Radford University, and a BA in Public Communication from Virginia Tech. She teaches courses including Crisis Communication Management, Social Media and Society, and oversees the student-run Agency program.
Her research focuses on nonprofit crisis communication, social media strategies, and gender issues in communication. She has authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles in journals like Public Relations Review and Corporate Communications, with notable work on crisis management frameworks for nonprofits and the role of social media in public health crises. Dr. Sisco has been honored as a 2014 and 2017 Arthur W. Page Legacy Scholar for contributions to public relations scholarship.
Her teaching spans undergraduate and graduate levels, emphasizing hands-on experience through study abroad programs and agency simulations. She actively bridges academic and professional realms through her editorial work and community engagement initiatives.
