Hicret K. TOPRAK

Assoc. Prof. Hicret K. TOPRAK is an academic at Ankara Social Sciences University’s Theology Faculty, Department of Sociology of Religion. She holds an Associate Professorship and specializes in Sociology of Religion, focusing on religious institutionalization, modernization, and protest movements. Born in Ankara (1980), she earned a B.A. in Theology from Ankara University (2003), an M.A. and Ph.D. in History from Hacettepe University (2008, 2017). Her career includes roles at the Presidency of Religious Affairs (2004–2018) and leadership at TDV KAGEM (2011–2018). She teaches courses on religion and modernization, family sociology, and societal theories. Her research emphasizes religious movements as protest forms and modern Turkish identity. She has authored books like Mihrap Minber ve Devlet (2019) and İtiraz Tepki Saflaşma (2023), and received the TÜBA-TESEP Award (2024). She advises graduate students on topics ranging from queer theory to modern Turkish literature.

Research Interests: Religion and Modernization, Turkish Modernization, Religious Warning Movements, Family Sociology, Cultural Hegemony Studies.

Publications highlight themes like digital media’s role in youth religious identity, secularism’s cultural impact, and women’s roles in religious contexts. She contributes to academic journals and serves on editorial boards including Tezkire and KAİDE. Her current roles include Kalite Koordinatörü at the Theology Faculty and membership in university quality committees.
