Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hicret Kiraz Toprak is a faculty member at the Department of Philosophy and Religious Sciences in the Faculty of Theology at Ankara University of Social Sciences. She holds a PhD in History from Hacettepe University and has extensive academic experience including administrative roles such as Department Chair and membership in institutional committees like Quality Board and Faculty Council. Her research focuses on Sociology of Religion with emphasis on modernization processes, religious identity formation, and gender studies within Turkish historical context.
Education: BA in Theology (Ankara University, 2003), MA in History (Hacettepe University, 2008), PhD in History (Hacettepe University, 2017), and Open Education Sociology Proficiency (Istanbul University, 2022). She has served as thesis advisor for four students focusing on topics like religious movements, women's organizations, and modern Turkish identity.
Research interests include analysis of secularism's development in Turkey, diyanet institution evolution, and intersection of religion with modernization. Recent publications examine youth religious identity in digital age, hegemonic discourses on civilization-religion relations, and construction of 'Muslim woman' identity in Cumhuriyet era.
Awarded TÜBA-TESEP Literary Award (2024). Active in academic leadership roles, serving on editorial boards of journals like Tezkire and Din Sosyolojisi Araştırmaları Dergisi. Conducted research on topics ranging from Imam Hatip schools' historical role to contemporary religious protest movements.
