Ejder OKUMUŞ

Prof. Dr. Ejder OKUMUŞ is a distinguished academic currently serving as a Professor at Ankara Social Sciences University's Faculty of Theology, Department of Sociology of Religion. With a career spanning over three decades, he has held academic positions at numerous prestigious institutions including Eskişehir Osmangazi University, Dokuz Eylül University, Dicle University, and has also had international experience at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and Louisiana State University.

Prof. OKUMUŞ earned his PhD from Marmara University's Institute of Social Sciences in Philosophy and Religious Sciences (1993-1999), his Master's from Selçuk University in Sociology of Religion (1993-1995), and his undergraduate degree from Selçuk University's Faculty of Theology (1986-1988). His extensive academic journey also includes additional degrees in Law and International Relations from Anadolu University.

His research focuses primarily on the Sociology of Religion, Political Sociology, and Communication Studies, with particular emphasis on the intersection of religion, politics, and society in contemporary Turkey and the Islamic world. His scholarly work demonstrates a deep engagement with both classical Islamic thought and modern sociological theory, examining topics ranging from religious practices and institutions to political discourse and social change.

Prof. OKUMUŞ's recent publications reveal a continued focus on Islamic political thought, media-religion relationships, and contemporary social issues within Muslim societies. His work analyzes figures like Ibn Bâcce, Ghazâlî, and Sezai Karakoç through sociological lenses, while also addressing contemporary topics such as Ramadan practices, gender roles, and conflict resolution within Islamic frameworks.

As an academic leader, Prof. OKUMUŞ has served in numerous administrative roles including Department Head, Faculty Board Member, and Senate Representative at Ankara Social Sciences University.
