Hernandez Stroud

Hernandez Stroud is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Washington and Lee University School of Law, where he teaches and researches civil rights, federal courts, federalism, legislation, and statutory interpretation. A 2015 W&L Law graduate, he previously served as Managing Editor for the Washington and Lee Journal of Civil Rights and Social Justice and President of the Black Law Students Association.

Stroud's research focuses on constitutional and criminal law, particularly the implications of governmental interactions with drug addiction during pregnancy. His work intersects with civil rights and policy, informed by his experience as a policy advisor to New Haven Mayor Toni N. Harp during his Yale Law School fellowship.

Among his notable awards are the Forbes 30 Under 30 in Law & Policy (2018), Best Brief at the 2014 National Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition, and finalist recognition in the 2014 John W. Davis Moot Court Competition. He clerked for the U.S. District Court (Northern District of Alabama) and will join the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit following his visiting appointment.
