Henrik Enderlein (1974-2021) was a Professor of Political Economy at the Hertie School and Founding Director of the Jacques Delors Centre. He served as President of the Hertie School from 2018 to 2021. His research focused on European economic policy, including the euro, EU budget, financial crises, and fiscal federalism. He held visiting roles as the Pierre Keller Visiting Professor at Harvard Kennedy School (2012-2013) and Fulbright Distinguished Chair at Duke University (2006-2007).
Enderlein received the Max Planck Society’s Otto-Hahn Medal (2003) for early-career achievements. He earned degrees from Sciences Po (Paris) and Columbia University (New York), completing his PhD at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne. Prior to academia, he worked as an economist at the European Central Bank (Frankfurt).
His work emphasized bridging academic research with policy-making, particularly during the Eurozone crisis. The Henrik Enderlein Fellowship, established posthumously, supports policy professionals advancing EU-related research and dialogue.
