Heli Muhonen is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Teacher Education, University of Jyväskylä. Her work focuses on dialogic classroom interactions, teacher-student relationships, and professional vision. She employs eye-tracking methodologies and retrospective interviews to investigate how teacher attention and dialogue quality influence student outcomes. Muhonen is affiliated with the Right to Belong project (2022-2028), addressing childhood loneliness, and the TESSI project studying teacher and student well-being. Her research has been funded by the Ella and Georg Ehrnrooth Foundation and Emil Aaltonen Foundation.
Her key research areas include educational dialogue quality, teacher occupational stress, and the impact of visual attention patterns on classroom dynamics. She collaborates on the Assessment Study of the Finnish Two-Year Pre-Primary Education Trial (ESKO), analyzing pedagogical practices for younger students. Recent studies explore associations between teacher-student relationships, social competence, and academic performance, particularly in early primary education.
