Helge Holden is a Professor at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). He serves as Chair of the Abel Prize committee (2023–2026), co-PI of the IMod project on data-based modeling, and previously led the 'Waves and Nonlinear Phenomena' (WaNP) project. He was Secretary General of the International Mathematical Union (IMU) from 2015–2022. His research focuses on differential equations, mathematical physics, stochastic analysis, and applications in fluid dynamics and porous media. Holden has authored numerous influential papers and books, including works on Camassa-Holm equations and stochastic processes. He has been actively involved in academic policy debates, publishing opinion pieces on research funding, education, and institutional governance. His contributions extend to interdisciplinary collaborations, such as modeling neural networks and traffic flow systems. Holden’s publications span both technical journals and public discourse, emphasizing the societal impact of mathematics.
