Katrin Grunert

Katrin Grunert is a Professor at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). She holds a MSc and PhD in Mathematics from the University of Vienna, Austria. Her research focuses on nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) governing wave motion, particularly investigating wave breaking and the influence of wave phenomena on future wave shapes. She is a member of NTNU's Outstanding Academic Fellows Programme 3.0 and leads the RCN Young Research Talent project Wave Phenomena and Stability - a Shocking Combination (2019-2024). She also participates in the RCN Toppforsk project Waves and Nonlinear Phenomena (2016-2022).

Her academic contributions span numerical analysis, stability theory, and applications of PDEs in fluid dynamics. Currently, she supervises 2 PhD students and mentors 1 PostDoc. Teaching includes courses on partial differential equations (TMA4305) and dynamical systems (TMA4165). Grunert actively engages in international conferences, presenting on topics like numerical solutions of the Hunter-Saxton equation and uniqueness theorems for the Camassa-Holm equation.
