Helene Brodin is Associate Professor of Social Work at Stockholm University, where she works in the Department of Social Work. She holds a PhD in Economic History and is a member of The Care Research Group, which studies disability, aging and long-term care related to social policy and organizational conditions.
Her research focuses on gender, care policies and care work with special attention to how New Public Management (NPM) has affected working conditions and service distribution in the welfare sector. She leads the Forte-funded project on Workplace violence in home-based social services and previously managed the Sustainable care in a customer choice model project.
Her publications reveal consistent themes across social policy, gender studies, and welfare systems. Her research demonstrates how marketization intersects with gender, ethnicity, and professional identity in elder care entrepreneurship, particularly examining how customer choice models affect small care enterprises and working conditions for care workers.
