Helena Thomas is a lecturer at Bath Spa University's School of Education, specializing in Secondary English Teacher Education. She has extensive experience as an English teacher, local authority consultant, and teacher educator, with a focus on creativity, collaboration, and personal growth in English pedagogy.
- Education: BA (Hons) from University of Durham, MA from University of Salford, QTS from Goldsmiths' College, University of London.
Her research explores the intersection of teacher agency and curriculum design in English education, particularly in creative writing instruction and literature teaching at Key Stage 3. She is currently undertaking doctoral research into novice teachers' experiences with the English curriculum. Helena is involved in two inter-university research projects examining creative writing pedagogy and KS3 literature instruction.
Helena has presented at conferences including the Wild Things Conference (2018) and the National Association of Writers in Education Conference (2018), focusing on ethical implications in educational research and the role of imagination in teaching writing. She has co-authored multiple peer-reviewed publications analyzing teacher autonomy, diversity in literature teaching, and narrative-based pedagogical approaches.
