Helena Sjölin is a Senior Lecturer in Nursing Science at the Department of Health Sciences, Örebro University. She holds a doctorate in medicine (2016) with a thesis on ambulance nurse education in critical incidents. Her roles include course management, thesis supervision, and program leadership for Specialist Nursing Programs in emergency/ambulance care. She is a full member of the Faculty of Medicine and Health.
Research focuses on palliative care and prehospital emergency nursing through the RIPE research group. Key areas include end-of-life care transitions, ambulance transport ethics, and emergency interventions for palliative patients. She also studies education and skill development for ambulance personnel.
Teaching spans undergraduate to postgraduate levels in nursing programs, with specialization in emergency/ambulance care pedagogy. She supervises doctoral students and leads educational initiatives.
Recent research explores relatives' experiences of end-of-life care, pandemic psychosocial support, and palliative care in emergency settings. She presents at international conferences like the European Association for Palliative Care and EUSEM.
