Helen Xanthaki

Professor Helen Xanthaki is a Visiting Professor at Queen Mary University of London’s School of Law and holds concurrent roles as Dean of Postgraduate Laws Programmes at the University of London, Professorial Teaching Fellow and Honorary Professor at University College London (UCL), and Director of International Postgraduate Laws Programmes. Her academic career includes extensive contributions to legislative studies, European Union law, and public law. She has held leadership positions such as Academic Director of the Sir William Dale Centre for Legislative Studies at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (IALS).

Her education includes a PhD from Durham University (1995–2000, part-time) on European Union company law, an MJur (1991–1993) on corporate law in Greece, and an LLB (Honours) from the University of Athens (1985–1990). She is a member of the Athens Bar since 1992 and has held legal roles in Greece and academia across multiple institutions.

Professor Xanthaki’s research focuses on legislative drafting, EU law compliance, and legal frameworks addressing fraud. Her publications include seminal works like Legislation in Europe: A Handbook for Scholars and Practitioners (2017) and Drafting Legislation: Art and Technology of Rules for Regulation (2014). She has directed major academic initiatives, including the International Postgraduate Laws Programmes, and contributes to global legal education and reform.

Her work emphasizes bridging theoretical legal principles with practical drafting challenges, particularly in multi-level governance systems. She has collaborated widely, authoring books on federal legislative challenges and EU fraud prevention mechanisms. Her research impacts both academic discourse and practical policy formulation across jurisdictions.
