Helen Xanthaki

Prof Helen Xanthaki is a Professor (Teaching) at the Faculty of Laws, University College London (UCL). She is a globally recognized expert in legislative drafting, legislative quality, and EU legal frameworks. Her roles include Dean of Postgraduate Laws Programmes (University of London Worldwide) and Honorary President of the International Association for Legislation. She has held academic positions at UCL, IALS, and Queen's University Belfast, alongside non-academic roles such as Member of the Committee for the Scrutiny of Lawmaking Quality in Greece and Key Expert in Better Regulation for Expertise France.

Education: PhD (University of Durham, 2000), LL.M. (University of Durham, 1994), Ptychion (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, 1990).

Research focuses on legislative effectiveness, EU legislative transposition, and comparative legislative systems. Her work has influenced drafting manuals in over 30 countries and EU institutions. Key projects include legislative reform in Greece and Saudi Arabia, and post-legislative scrutiny initiatives.

Scientific contributions include leading roles in the Statute Law Review and authoring seminal works like Thornton's Legislative Drafting. Her awards include Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and recognition across international legal associations.

Advising and grants span EU-funded projects on legislative quality, Commonwealth Secretariat collaborations, and contributions to the European Parliament’s JURI Committee. She is affiliated with multiple academic and governmental bodies, including Xiamen University (China) as Honorary Professor.
