Helen Skouteris is a Professor in Health and Social Care Improvement and Implementation Science at Monash University's School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. She leads the Health and Social Care Unit (HSCU) and co-leads the Division of Evidence Synthesis, Qualitative and Implementation Methods. Her roles include Director of the National Health and Medical Research Council Centre of Research Excellence in Health in Preconception and Pregnancy (CRE HiPP 2020-2025) and Editor-in-Chief of Early Child Development and Care (2024–present). She is an Honorary Professor at Deakin University (2017–2020).
Her research focuses on bridging the research-to-practice gap in health equity, particularly for vulnerable populations. Key areas include implementation science, preconception and pregnancy health, and trauma-informed practices. She has pioneered programs like the SEMPRE initiative to advance equity-centered implementation science across health, social care, and education sectors.
Dr. Skouteris has led over 60 industry projects and secured significant funding, including ARC Linkage Projects, NHMRC grants, and EU Horizon 2020 awards. Her team’s work has influenced policy and practice through interventions such as the Sanctuary Model in child protection and MyCare Ageing for dementia care. She co-developed the HSCU Professional Learning Program, offering courses in implementation science, qualitative research methods, and program evaluation.
Notable achievements include the 2021 PHRP Excellence Award for Best InPractice Paper. Her current initiatives address multicultural health equity, early childhood development, and workforce wellbeing in healthcare.
