Dr Asvini Subasinghe is a Research Fellow at the Eastern Health Clinical School, Monash University, and a key member of the NHMRC CRE in Health in Preconception and Pregnancy (HiPP). She is also a Chief Investigator on the MRFF-funded ORIENT Trial and leads several national projects focused on improving reproductive health access for priority populations. Her affiliations include the Murdoch Children's Research Institute and the Royal Women's Hospital.

Dr Subasinghe's research centers on sexual and reproductive health, with a strong focus on epidemiology, women’s health, abortion, contraception, and health equity. She investigates health outcomes among adolescents, socioeconomically disadvantaged groups, and survivors of sexual abuse. Her work emphasizes primary health care innovation, including nurse-led models, telehealth, and task-sharing to improve access in rural and remote areas. She has led cross-national collaborations, such as a cervical cancer screening pilot in South India.
Her recent publications highlight trends in preconception health frameworks, equitable abortion access, telehealth in primary care, and contraceptive literacy. These works reflect a consistent focus on policy-relevant, community-engaged research that addresses systemic inequities in reproductive healthcare across Australia and the Asia-Pacific.

Dr Subasinghe has secured significant research funding and serves as Primary Chief Investigator on multiple projects, including EXTEND-PREFER and the ORIENT study. She co-founded the not-for-profit Humanity Unearthed in 2015 to amplify grassroots voices in the Asia-Pacific. She also contributes to policy and knowledge translation through roles on the editorial board of BMC Primary Care and as a Board Member of Children by Choice Association Incorporated.
She leads and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams across institutions to co-design digital health tools and interconception care interventions, emphasizing participatory research and equity-centered design.
