Professor Danielle Mazza is a leading academic and clinician researcher at Monash University, serving as Head of the Department of General Practice. She is internationally recognized for her work in women’s sexual and reproductive health, preventive care, and antimicrobial stewardship. A Conjoint Professor at the University of Newcastle, she also practices as a General Practitioner at BMC Holdings. Her research focuses on reducing inequities in healthcare access, particularly in contraceptive and abortion services, and she leads major initiatives like the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Women's Sexual and Reproductive Health (SPHERE). She chairs the RACGP’s Red Book Preventive Care Guideline Development Group, influencing care for over 40,000 GPs.
Her leadership extends to national advisory roles, including the National Women’s Health Advisory Council and Victorian Women’s Health Advisory Council. With over $59 million in competitive funding, she has published 279 peer-reviewed articles, ranking in the top 0.57% globally in contraception research. Awards include a Member of the Order of Australia (2023) and Fellowship from the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences.
Research interests span primary care innovation, chronic disease prevention, and evidence-based practice. Key projects include optimizing preconception care, improving abortion access, and antimicrobial stewardship protocols. Collaborations involve multidisciplinary teams and global health organizations.
