Abby Wild's research spans prison sociology, feminist theory, biophilic design, and social inclusion. Her doctoral work investigates therapeutic prison programs in the U.S., emphasizing how implementation affects rehabilitation outcomes. She explores how 'enabling environments'—shaped by architecture, social dynamics, and program design—can foster well-being and reduce reoffending. Her interdisciplinary work also examines gender-based violence policy, public narratives of disadvantage, and sustainable building practices.
Her recent publications reflect a strong trend in social policy, behavioral science, and environmental sustainability. Articles such as 'Public narratives of disadvantage' and 'Extreme temperatures in buildings' demonstrate her ability to bridge social research with environmental and legal frameworks. Her work on gender-based violence highlights participatory approaches to policy reform, focusing on survivor co-production. These outputs reveal a consistent focus on equity, implementation science, and systemic change across criminal justice, health, and environmental domains.
Abby has received two significant awards for her applied research:
- PHRP Excellence Awards - Best InPractice Paper (2021)
- One behaviour at a time - transforming the work of Industry through the 'Applying Behavioural Science to Create Change' micro-credential (2023)
She has been involved in advising and collaborative research, particularly in projects related to behavior change and public engagement. Notably, she served as a Chief Investigator on the 'Analysing Change for a Lower Carbon Future' project (2020–2021), indicating her role in securing and managing research grants. Her work with organizations like the Movember Foundation and ACT Health further demonstrates her applied research and evaluation expertise. While no formal students are listed, her teaching experience at Cambridge suggests a history of academic mentorship.
Abby is affiliated with BehaviourWorks Australia, a research center focused on applying behavioral science to real-world challenges. Her work often involves interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly with experts in law, environmental science, and public health. She engages with both academic and public audiences, as evidenced by media contributions on bushfire recovery and multicultural health communication.
