Dr Denise Goodwin is a Senior Research Fellow and Co-Director of Health Programs at BehaviourWorks Australia (BWA), based in the Monash Sustainable Development Institute (MSDI) at Monash University. Her role bridges academic research and professional practice, focusing on translating behavioural science into evidence-based interventions for public and industry sectors. She leads and contributes to numerous funded research projects, primarily using qualitative methods and systems thinking to address complex policy challenges.

Dr Goodwin’s research interests center on systems thinking, complex systems, public health, and behaviour change. She specializes in qualitative research methodologies, including interviews, focus groups, and stakeholder dialogues, to understand behavioural drivers and develop targeted interventions. Her work spans clinical and preventative health, sustainability, education, and social inclusion, aligning with multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals. She is particularly interested in knowledge translation, environmental determinants of health, and evaluating complex adaptive systems.
Her recent publications reflect a strong focus on health systems, sustainability in healthcare, and inclusive practices. Key themes include dementia care, maternity care decision-making, workplace psychosocial safety, hospital waste management, and cultural safety in sport. Her work consistently applies behavioural insights to real-world problems, demonstrating a transdisciplinary and applied approach.
