Helen Machin is a Lecturer in Social Work at Keele University’s School of Medicine, serving as Disability Inclusion Tutor and Lead for the Professional Doctorate in Social Work. She holds degrees from Durham University (English Literature), Liverpool John Moores University (Social Work), Jiaotong University (Chinese Languages and Culture), and Keele University (Doctorate in Social Work). Her research focuses on undocumented migration, particularly Chinese migrants in England, and explores social work’s role with marginalized groups. She teaches ethics, social justice, and social work research.
Research Interests: Helen examines immigration policy impacts, migrant rights, and social work practice responses in both the UK and China. Her work bridges social justice theory and practical advocacy for vulnerable populations. She contributes to national debates on migration through peer-reviewed publications and collaborations like the China Europe Research Platform on Migration.
Publications: Her recent work emphasizes narrative analysis in social work with undocumented migrants and ethical challenges in researching hidden groups. These studies highlight methodological innovation and social justice advocacy.
