Dr. Xuebing (Jack) Cao is Senior Lecturer and Head of the Marketing, Management and Organisation Group at Keele Business School, Keele University. He serves as Deputy Director of Keele's Institute for Global Health and Wellbeing and directs the Senior People Professional apprenticeship programme. An Academic Associate Member of CIPD and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, he holds a Visiting Professorship at Capital University of Economics and Business, China.
His research examines performance management in health services, work-life balance, migrant worker issues, and China's evolving labor relations. Current projects include the Research England-funded 'Midlands Good Work Charter' initiative analyzing employment policy in post-COVID economic recovery. Previous major studies investigated wage consultation in multinationals (Leverhulme Trust) and Kenya's labor market development (GCRF).
Cao teaches human resource management, employee resourcing, and strategic reward systems across undergraduate, MBA, and specialized postgraduate programs. His research on Chinese industrial relations has appeared in Management and Organization Review, Industrial Relations Journal, and Strategic Management Society proceedings.
He currently supervises doctoral candidates studying trade unionism in education, healthcare payment reforms, and workplace stigmatization, having mentored six PhD students to completion. His editorial contributions include the International Journal of Human Resource Management and Asia Pacific Journal of Human Resources.
