Helen Lewis is an Associate Professor at University College Dublin's School of Archaeology, specializing in later prehistory of Northwest Europe and Southeast Asia. She co-directs excavations in Palawan Island, Philippines, and leads research on Irish cave sites.
Her research employs geoarchaeological methods including soil micromorphology to study landscape evolution, ancient land use, and site formation processes. Current projects examine animal bones from Irish caves and comparative geoarchaeology standards in cultural resource management.
Recent publications demonstrate interdisciplinary approaches combining remote sensing, soil science, and community archaeology. Studies focus on Southeast Asian cave sites, Bronze Age settlements in Serbia, and heritage co-creation practices.
She has directed major research initiatives including the Boyne Valley Landscapes Project and Palawan Island Palaeohistory Project, funded by organizations including the Heritage Council and British Academy.
