Vito Hernandez is a Lecturer in Archaeology at Flinders University, College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, with a balanced teaching and research role. He holds a PhD in Geoarchaeology (Flinders University, 2020–2025) and an MSc in Archaeology (University of the Philippines Diliman, 2011), with a BA in Philippine Arts/Heritage Studies (University of the Philippines Manila).
His research focuses on human-environment interactions in Southeast Asia across the Pleistocene to Early Modern Period, utilizing micromorphological techniques to study site formation, sedimentology, and resilience to climatic and demographic changes. Current projects include investigating Angkor's decline (with Associate Professor Martin Polkinghorne) and analyzing Pleistocene human dispersals (under Professor Mike Morley's ARC Future Fellowship).

Vito teaches undergraduate courses in Geoarchaeology, Southeast Asian Archaeology, and Human Osteology. He is affiliated with the Australian Microarchaeology and Palaeosciences (AusMAP) facility and the Biogeography, Environment, Evolution and Climate Laboratory at the University of the Philippines.
