Marcazzan specializes in the microcontextual analysis of fire use by hunter-gatherer groups through geoarchaeological techniques including soil and sediment micromorphology, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (Micro XRF), organic petrology, and phytolith analysis. Her research primarily focuses on diachronic analysis of anthropogenic features from Middle and Upper Paleolithic deposits, with particular attention to site formation processes and human-environmental interaction.
