Helen Ibeawuchi, M.D., is an Assistant Professor of Physiology at the University of Pikeville (UPIKE). She holds a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Calabar, an MD from the College of Medical Sciences at the University of Calabar, and an MS in Bioinformatics from George Washington University. Her research focuses on bioinformatics-driven genomic analysis, particularly in single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and SNV detection. She teaches courses including Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Human Anatomy, and Physiology.
Her work includes developing computational tools for analyzing genetic variation and gene expression correlations in single-cell datasets. Notable contributions include methods for barcode-stratified scRNA-seq alignment and allele-specific expression estimation.
Dr. Ibeawuchi completed an internship at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital and has contributed to peer-reviewed publications in genomics and bioinformatics. Her teaching and research bridge clinical practice with cutting-edge genomic technologies.
