Helen Huang is a Professor of Costume Design at the University of Maryland, College Park, within the School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Study. She holds an M.F.A. in Set and Costume Design from the University of Missouri, Kansas City, and a B.F.A. in Set Design from the Central Academy of Drama, Beijing, China.
Her research expertise spans Costume Design, Scenic Design, Drawing, Painting, and Photography. She is renowned for her award-winning designs, including works exhibited at the A. A. Bakhrushin Museum in Moscow and featured in the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Her notable publications include Elizabethan Costume Design and Construction and Character Sketch: A Drawing Course for Costume Designers.
Awards include the Helen Hayes Award and Ivey Awards. Her design credits span major theatres like The Washington Ballet, Folger Theatre, and international venues such as the National Opera House of China. She teaches in the MFA Costume Design Program and contributes to the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center.
