She directs the McDermott Center for Human Growth and Development, which serves as the Center for Human Genetics at UT Southwestern.
- Education: Undergraduate degree from Stanford University, medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, internship at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, and postdoctoral training under Nobel laureates Michael Brown and Joseph Goldstein.
Research Interests focus on identifying genetic determinants of plasma lipid levels, cardiovascular risk, and fatty liver disease. Her lab employs human genetics and functional studies to explore lipid uptake and trafficking dysregulation in disease mechanisms.
- Awards: Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator.
Grants & Collaborations: The Dallas Heart Study, established by Dr. Hobbs, is supported by the Hoffman Family Center in Genetics and Epidemiology and the National Center for Advancing Translational Science (NCATS).
