Jin Ye is a Professor in the Department of Molecular Genetics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He holds a PhD in Cell Regulation (2000) and MS in Biochemistry (1995), both from UT Southwestern and Case Western Reserve University, respectively. His postdoctoral training (2000-2004) was conducted under Nobel laureates Michael Brown and Joseph Goldstein. His research focuses on lipid-mediated signaling pathways, particularly the role of ceramide in cancer progression and CREB3L1 activation mechanisms. His lab identified ceramide's dual role in inhibiting cancer cell proliferation through proteolytic activation of CREB3L1 and its regulatory interaction with TM4SF20. He also investigates cholesterol and fatty acid metabolism in kidney cancers and the interplay between lipids and viral infections.
Key contributions include uncovering 'Regulated Alternative Translocation' mechanisms for transmembrane proteins and defining CREB3L1 as a predictive biomarker for doxorubicin therapy. His work bridges lipid biochemistry with cancer biology, virology, and metabolic disorders. He is a full member of the Biological Chemistry and Integrated Biology Program graduate faculty.
