- PhD from University of Bristol Chemical Synthesis Centre for Doctoral Training
Research Interests: Dr. Coulshed's work centers on evaluative judgement in chemistry education—how students determine quality in assessments—and developing co-created frameworks for quality understanding between staff and students. Her research extends to inclusive education practices, addressing the STEM attainment gap, and promoting diversity through initiatives like the Chemistry Outreach Program and Athena SWAN.
Publication Trends: Her 2021-2024 publications reveal a cohesive focus on educational equity in chemistry, with recurring themes including attainment gap analysis, service-learning modules for social justice, supramolecular chemistry pedagogy, and interdisciplinary approaches to gender equality. These works consistently emphasize data-driven inclusive curriculum design and student-centered assessment strategies.
Scientific Awards:
- King’s Teaching award for Inclusive Education (for Chemistry Outreach Program development)
- King’s Education Award (2019)
Advising and Grants: Dr. Coulshed supervises postgraduate researchers including Alex Palmer. Her funded projects include EPSRC/GSK support for MSci polymer research, Marie Curie funding for the NASCENT Winter School, and current collaborations with GABA Labs on functional ingredients. She co-created an innovative online module for globalized skills with War Studies and Informatics departments.
Labs and Teams: She leads the Coulshed Group focused on chemistry education research and chairs the NMES Equality, Diversity and Inclusion committee, driving institutional change through Athena SWAN initiatives and the Chemistry Outreach Program that engages local schools.
