Helder Mota-Filipe

Helder Mota-Filipe is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Pharmacy at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon. He serves as Executive Member of Portugal's National Ethics Committee for Clinical Research and as an expert advisor to the European Medicines Agency (EMA). His regulatory leadership includes vice-presidency (2005-2015) and presidency (2015-2016) of INFARMED IP, Portugal's National Authority of Medicines and Health Products.

His experimental research targets novel therapeutic pathways for life-threatening inflammatory conditions:

• Neuroprotection in transient focal cerebral ischemia
• Modulation of acute lung injury mechanisms
• Pharmacological interventions for ischemia-reperfusion injury
• Inflammatory bowel disease pathophysiology

Recent work focuses on health technology assessment, analyzing policy measures for cost-effective medicine utilization within healthcare systems. His dual expertise bridges laboratory-based drug discovery and real-world pharmaceutical policy implementation.
